Maryam Kazeem

Maryam Kazeem is a freelance writer and multimedia artist based in Lagos. Her work explores memory and what it means to ‘write’ the black female body through representations in image, text and other mediums. Her writing has been published in Catapult, Another Gaze and Vogue Italia. She was the Managing Editor for Ventures Africa from 2015 to 2017, and has also produced documentaries for the United Nations in Malawi and Al Jazeera in Northern Nigeria. A finalist in the National Art Competition (2015, African Artists Foundation) and Callaloo Nonfiction Fellow (2017), her investigations explore the representation of Nigerian and African women in different mediums to interrogate and produce new ways of thinking about feminism within Africa and globally.
